Inviting teammates

Red Kite is more useful when the people who own your assets can see them. Invite your security team, but also the teams that will act on the results, such as infrastructure, web or application owners.

Required permissions

Inviting users requires the permission to create users, which administrators have by default.

Sending an invitation

  1. Go to Management > Users and click Invite.
  2. Enter your teammate's email and choose their group. The group decides what they can see and do. See Choosing a group.
  3. Click Invite.

Your teammate receives an email with a link to set up their account. The link is valid for 7 days. If it expired, open the user's menu in Management > Users and click Resend onboarding email.

To fill in more details yourself, such as the name or the language of the emails, use New User instead. See Users.

Choosing a group

Permissions in Red Kite come from groups. Red Kite comes with three groups:

GroupProjectsWhat its members can do
adminsAll projectsEverything, including configuring Red Kite.
usersAll projectsUse the application, but not configure it.
read-onlyAll projectsRead data, but not edit it.

To give someone access to some projects only, create a group restricted to those projects. Red Kite has two templates for this: project contributor, who can add and update data in the selected projects, and project read-only, who can only read it. See Managing roles and permissions.

tip

Give each person the smallest access they need. Most teammates outside the security team only need to read the data of their own projects.

Sharing without an account

To show a project to someone who does not need an account, such as an auditor or an external provider, share it with a link. See Working with teammates.
